Goshen Library Board of Directors
4/15/2026 4:00 PM
Present: Anne Green, Henrietta Horvay, Rebecca Prause, Patricia Sanders
The regular monthly meeting began with the approval of the minutes of the March meeting on a motion by Henrietta Horvay and a second by Anne Greene.
Library Director Philip Armentrout reported on a staff inventory project necessitated by a lack of space in the biography section of the library. Staff were looking at books that had not circulated in the past seven years and those that repeated subjects. The project was successful in creating additional space. He also reported that the escape room kit had been ordered and that he would be in touch with those committed to assisting with that program. Finally, he described upcoming adult (2) and children’s (3) programs.
Horvay asked that the library budget be included in the Director’s Report; Armentrout indicated that it had been sent to Treasurer Lynette Miller and assumed she had included it. Horvay indicated that the report should be sent to the President and shared with the Board. The Director’s Report was approved on a motion by Greene and a second by Horvay.
Green read the Treasurer’s Report provided by Miller, who has resigned from the Board. In her report, Miller addressed the request by Board members to investigate whether the bank accounts could earn more interest. Miller discussed the issue with the town treasurer who suggested that “the change alone would cost our town much more in hourly expenses” than would be gained from a small change in interest earned. Miller also reported that the cash received by the library has increased for the first time in many months.
The discussion turned to replacing Miller as treasurer. With Kristin Durso not in attendance, the Board initially decided to table the vote to its next meeting, a decision that was reversed after First Selectman Seth Breakell noted that the Board could, in fact, vote. Patricia Sanders nominated Horvay, Greene seconded, and Horvay was elected to fill the treasurer position.
Breakell reminded the Board that with ten weeks left in the fiscal year, it needed to be mindful of its spending, noting that if spending was flat for the ten weeks, the library would overspend its budget. Breakell and Armentrout will meet to discuss the budget. The potential need for funds elicited a question from Green about accessing monies from the Friends of the Library. Horvay described the process, noting that the Friends could only support the library activities in accordance with its own by-laws.
The meeting adjourned at 4:39 PM.
